Board of Education Update:

On Tuesday, October 11th, 4 of 5 Board of Education seats were decided. The seat for District 3 (Baileywick's District) resulted in a run-off between Kevin Hill (Incumbent) and Heather Losurdo. The run-off vote will be on Tuesday, November 8th. If you live in District 3, please get out and VOTE.

BOE News: The nine member board voted on Tuesday, October 17th with a 6-2 majority, to adopt the new choice-based method of deciding where students will attend school. The following is a brief timeline of the rollout:

Nov. 14-18: School system sends "Initial Notice of Student Assignment" form to all enrolled students. The form will tell families they don't have to do anything if they want to stay at their current schools. This is the END of families being assigned to a specific school based on their address.

Nov/Dec: A website will go live allowing families to look up school options based on their address.

Dec. 5-19: The application period begins for families who want to enroll their children into a magnet school next year.

Jan. 17-Feb. 24: Application period begins for families who want to attend a nonmagnet school. Students not enrolled in the school system will need to register first with the school system.

Mar. 19-Apr. 9: Second application period for people who didn't participate in the winter.
